How to Get the Watermelon
The watermelon is the summit of Fruit Merge — twelve merge steps above the humble cherry. Most players never see one, not because it takes too long, but because their board becomes an unsortable junk drawer around the peach stage. Here is the strategy that reliably gets there.
1. Pick a watermelon corner on drop one
Decide immediately — left corner or right corner — where your biggest fruit will live, and never fight that decision. Drop your first big merges toward that side. A big fruit in the center is a wall that splits your board in half; a big fruit in a corner is a foundation.
2. Sort by size, always
The ideal board reads like a staircase: biggest fruit in the corner, then descending sizes toward the opposite wall. When fruits are sorted, every merge result lands next to the fruit it will merge with next, and chains cascade naturally. Every time you drop a fruit on the "wrong" side, you are borrowing trouble.
3. Never bury the small stuff
A cherry trapped under a coconut is effectively deleted from the game — and worse, it is dead space that pushes your pile toward the danger line. If the next fruit would land on much bigger fruits, place it against the wall on the small side instead, even if it feels wasteful.
4. Engineer chain reactions
The fastest route to big fruits is not making merges — it is making merges that cause merges. Before dropping, ask: after these two cherries merge, will the strawberry that results touch another strawberry? Setting up two or three dominoes at once clears space and doubles your effective merge rate.
5. Respect the danger line early
The dashed line is not a wall you hit — it is a countdown that starts once your pile grows tall anywhere. Height problems compound: a tall pile leaves less room to sort, which makes taller piles. If any column reaches two-thirds height, spend your next several drops flattening it, not chasing merges.
The final ascent
From two melons to a watermelon, you need a huge amount of clear space — the melon pair alone fills a third of the box. This is why the corner discipline matters from drop one: when the moment comes, your watermelon merge should happen against a wall with the rest of the board sorted small-to-large beside it.
